Formed in Queens, NY, in 1955, the Cleftones consisted of five friends from Jamaica High School. In 1961, the Cleftones realized the in posse of the sound with their dash to pieces hit version of the standard "Heart and Soul"; it became the cluster's biggest hit, reaching number 18 forward both pop and R&B charts. Later that year, the collection had another hit with "For Sentimental Reasons," however the band had reached a point with "Heart and Soul" and were not at any time able to reach those heights afresh. The Cleftones broke up in 1964, three years afterward their greatest success.
